Day 8 Chicago here I come

Trolling downtown of Chicago makes me feel so much smaller surrounding by all the skyscrapers.

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), established in 1848, is the world’s oldest futures and options exchange. More than 50 differentoptions and futures contracts are traded by over 3,600 CBOT members through open outcry andelectronic trading. Volumes at the exchange in 2003 were a record breaking 454 million contracts.

Chicago Board of Trade commissioned Holabird & Root to design the current building. Clad in gray Indiana limestone, topped with a copper pyramid roof, and standing on a site running 174 ft, the 605 ft (184 m) tall art deco-styled building opened on June 9, 1930. It serves as the southern border for the skyscrapers hugging La Salle Street and is taller than surrounding structures for several blocks. The Chicago Board of Trade has operated continuously on its fourth floor since the 1930 opening, dedicating 19,000 square feet (1,800 m2) to what was then the world’s largest trading floor.The central structure is capped by a 6,500 pound, 31 ft (9.4 m) tall aluminum statue by sculptor John H. Storrs of the Roman goddess of grain, Ceres, holding a sheaf of wheat in the left hand and a bag of corn in the right hand, as a nod to the exchange’s heritage as acommodities market. This statue was assembled from 40 pieces. At the main entrance,  left statue represents industry and right statue represents agriculture. The clock is also enriched Architectural detail trade of corn and wheat.

Moving to the most popular tourist destinations the Willis Tower. It is built as and still commonly referred to as Sears Tower, is a 108-story, 1,451-foot skyscraper inChicago, Illinois, United States. At completion in 1973, it surpassed the World Trade Center towers in New York to become the tallest building in the world, a title it held for nearly 25 years. The Willis Tower is the second-tallest building in the United States and the 13th-tallest in the world. The structure was renamed in 2009 by the Willis Group as part of its lease on a portion of the tower’s space. The building’s official address is 233 SouthWacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois 60606. Construction took 7 years to complete due to delays on city development plans and lawsuits.

The Willis Tower observation deck, called the Skydeck, opened on June 22, 1974. Three glass bottom skyboxes (top right) on the west façade of Willis Tower at the 103rd floor. This 1,353 feet high building has attracted over 1.3 millions tourists annually. Tourists can experience how the building sways on a windy day. They can see far over the plains of Illinois and across Lake Michigan to Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin on a clear day. Elevators take tourists to the top in about 60 seconds, and allow tourists to feel the pressure change as they rise up. The Skydeck competes with the John Hancock Center’s observation floor a mile and a half away, which is 323 feet (98 m) lower.

The line to get into the Willis tower is way too long for our tight schedule, we decided to come back the next day hopfully with a lighter traffic 😰😰😰. Fortunately, we get an perfect oppotunity for a sunset shot on Jackson Blvd.

The restaurant served a number of celebrities who were regular customers and has been written about in books and articles.Lucius Beebe, gourmand, author and journalist, included references to The Pump Room in some of his books and articles.Arturo Petterino (1920–2010) was its maitre d’ for many years, steering celebrity patrons to the coveted Booth One. Famous guests included Frank Sinatra, John Barrymore, Judy Garland, Bette Davis, Beverly Sills, David Bowie, Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, John Steinbeck, Ronald Reagan, Paul Harvey, Helen Hayes, Clark Gable, Sammy Davis Jr., Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Elizabeth Taylor, Lena Horne, Joan Crawford,Tallulah Bankhead, Audrey Hepburn, Liza Minnelli, Robert Redford, Bill Murray, Josephine Baker, Phil Collins, Gertrude Lawrence, Eddie Fisher, Michael J. The wall on the entrance hall is filled with all famous customers since 1938!!!🙌🙌🙌
